HUNT. ADVENTURE. ABROAD

We hunt a lot… Some outfitters are great; others not so much. Check out the operations we recommend below.

AFRICA

With prime free-range areas in the mountainous regions in the Eastern Cape of South Africa as well as concessions in Mozambique and Zambia, Crusader Safaris has plenty to offer and is one of the finest safari operators in the business. Specialties in SA include excellent free-range Cape Kudu, monster Nyala, and outstanding bushbuck plus all the other classics such as zebra, warthog, and impala. Mozambique and Zambia provide opportunities to hunt Cape buffalo, Leopard, Lion, Hippo and so forth in classic, old Africa. Crusader owner and head Andrew Pringle is a master of logistics, a pioneer in hunting areas and methods, and a darned good human being to boot. If you have a large group that wants to all go on safari together, Crusader is perhaps the best option in all of Africa.

Crusader Safaris

If you yearn to hunt giant free-range Cape buffalo deep in the heart of Old Africa, here’s your fix. You’ll fly to Beira, Mozambique via Johannesburg, then on into wild bush country on a small charter plane. You’ll hunt the forests and deltas of the mighty Zambeze River, where seeing several hundred Cape buffalo a day isn’t uncommon. Indigenous sable, huge waterbuck, Livingston’s Eland, world-class warthog, and myriad other species are available too and will scratch your plains-game itch. It’s worth noting that this is one of the best places in the world to successfully hunt about half of the legendary Tiny Ten antelope species.

Zambeze Delta Safaris

If you want to hunt a world-class free-range Southern Greater Kudu, Kowas Hunting Safaris (pronounced “Kohvahs”) is the best there is. Their area is comprised of 420,000 acres of mountainous kudu habitat populated with some of the best genetics in all of Africa. This region on the edge of the Kalahari desert is truly the promised land for Kudu. The operation is family owned and run by the Strauss’s, who are known for leadership in conservation and for being part kudu themselves. No man alive is better at finding and effectively hunting monster bulls than Jacques Strauss, who heads up Kowas. Note: The giant kudu bull in this section header was shot by Adam Weatherby while hunting with Kowas. Jacques is also an ice-cold, unerring shot in the face of a Cape buffalo charge. Ask us how we know.
